1. 🌇 Ping An Finance Centre — view from the top

One of the world's tallest buildings (599m). The Free Sky observation deck on floor 116 gives jaw-dropping 360° views of Shenzhen and, on clear days, Hong Kong. Book timed tickets online to skip queues; go on a clear day for the best visibility.

2. 🌏 Window of the World (世界之窗)

A theme park with miniatures of world landmarks — Eiffel Tower, Pyramids, Taj Mahal — plus shows and a nightly light display. Kitschy but fun, especially for first-timers. Metro: Window of the World station (Line 1/2).

3. 🏯 Splendid China & Folk Culture Villages (锦绣中华民俗村)

Next door to Window of the World: miniature China plus live folk performances from minority cultures. A good crash course in China's regional diversity. Often combined-ticket with Window of the World.

4. 🌊 Dameisha & Xiaomeisha Beaches (大梅沙/小梅沙)

Shenzhen's famous city beaches on the east coast, backed by green hills. Dameisha is the big public beach (free, busy at weekends); Xiaomeisha is smaller. Go on a weekday for space. Metro Line 8 now reaches Yantian.

A 1,700-year-old walled town in Nanshan, now gentrified with cafes, galleries and boutiques inside old lanes. Free, photogenic and perfect for a half-day wander. Metro: Zhongshan Park / Nantou Ancient City station.

6. 🎨 OCT-LOFT Creative Culture Park (华侨城创意文化园)

Converted factory buildings housing design studios, galleries, cafes and weekend markets. Shenzhen's creative heart. Metro: Qiaocheng East (Line 1/2).

7. 🖼️ Dafen Oil Painting Village (大芬油画村)

A village famous for its painting workshops — you can watch artists at work and commission a custom oil painting for surprisingly little. Metro Line 3 to Dafen station.

8. 🛍️ Dongmen Pedestrian Street (东门步行街)

Shenzhen's oldest shopping street: a huge open-air mall of snack stalls, bargain clothes and electronics. Chaotic, cheap and very Chinese. Near Luohu border. Come hungry and sharp-eyed.

9. 🐠 Sea World & Shekou (蛇口海上世界)

A waterfront complex built around a retired cruise liner, with restaurants, bars and a lively evening scene. Nearby is the Shekou promenade and ferry to Zhuhai/Macau. Metro Line 2 to Sea World.

10. 🏞️ Shenzhen Bay Park (深圳湾公园)

A 13km coastal park with a famous boardwalk, cycling path and skyline views across the bay toward Hong Kong. Gorgeous at sunset. Free. Metro Line 9 to Shenzhen Bay Park station.

• Shenzhen is spread out — group attractions by district (Nanshan: Window of the World/OCT-LOFT/Nantou; Luohu: Dongmen/Dafen; Yantian: beaches).
• Use the metro between them — it's fast and cheap (see our metro guide).
• Most parks are free; theme parks charge ¥200+ — decide which are worth it for you.
