One day in Shenzhen is enough to fall in love with it. This itinerary is designed to be doable, delicious and photogenic — all connected by metro, and easy to start from either border crossing.
🌅 Morning (09:30): Start at Nantou Ancient City
Take the metro to Nantou Ancient City (Line 12, Nantou Ancient City station). Walk the old lanes before the crowds, snap the historic gates, and grab a coffee at one of the courtyard cafes. 1.5 hours is plenty.
Metro tip: from Futian Checkpoint it's about 30 minutes; from Luohu about 40.
🍜 Late morning (11:30): Dim sum or Chaoshan beef
From Nantou, head to a busy local restaurant nearby for dim sum or a Chaoshan beef hotpot lunch. Look for a place full of locals — follow the crowds rule. Budget ¥60-100 per person.
🎨 Afternoon (13:30): OCT-LOFT creative park
Take the metro to OCT-LOFT (Qiaocheng East, Line 1/2). Wander the galleries, design shops and street art for an hour. It's a great place to buy unique souvenirs.
🌇 Late afternoon (16:00): Ping An Finance Centre view
Head to Futian and up to the Free Sky observation deck at the Ping An Finance Centre. The late-afternoon light over the city and bay is superb — time it so you're up there around 16:30-17:00 and you'll catch day turning to dusk.
🦪 Evening (18:30): Dinner in Futian
Stay in Futian for dinner — COCO Park or the surrounding streets have everything from grilled oysters to hotpot. Try something you haven't had yet (seafood? Hunan spice? Cantonese roast goose?).
🌃 Night (20:30): Shenzhen Bay Park walk
Take Line 9 to Shenzhen Bay Park and walk the illuminated boardwalk — the skyline glittering across the water is a perfect end to the day. Taxi or Didi back to your border crossing or hotel.
