Apple's 2026 autumn event introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company's first foldable, the iPhone Duo. All three go on sale in Hong Kong and Mainland China — but how much do the two markets actually differ on price? Here is a breakdown configuration by configuration.

The pattern is clear: for the same model and storage, Hong Kong is cheaper across the board — by HK$1,180 to HK$2,944, and the gap widens as storage increases (the iPhone 18 Pro 2TB differs by HK$2,944).
Why is the mainland version more expensive? The 13% VAT
iPhones sold in Mainland China ("CN version") include 13% VAT in the sticker price. Hong Kong is a free port where most goods are duty-free, so even with similar Apple pricing strategies the Hong Kong version works out cheaper once converted. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at ¥9,999 in the mainland — about HK$11,679 — versus HK$10,499 in Hong Kong, a HK$1,180 difference.
CN version vs Hong Kong version
- SIM setup: the CN version's selling point is dual physical nano-SIM slots; the Hong Kong version uses one physical SIM plus eSIM. Both handle dual lines, and eSIM is more flexible.
- Warranty: the CN version is serviced by Apple Authorised Service Providers in the mainland; repairs back in Hong Kong need separate arrangements, whereas the Hong Kong version is covered locally.
- Software: some features on CN iPhones are region-restricted (certain voice/video features, differences in App Store content).
- Resale: the local market generally favours the Hong Kong version, which usually holds value better.

Bottom line
On price alone, the iPhone 18 is cheaper in Hong Kong, with local warranty included. The only real upside of buying a CN unit is dual physical SIM slots and immediate stock — if you don't specifically need dual SIM, buying locally is the better deal.
