🚉 Luohu (罗湖) — handiest for the border
Around the Luohu border crossing: Dongmen shopping street, the railway station, and the famous Luohu Commercial City market. Older and busier, but convenient if you're doing day trips from Hong Kong.
- Pros: 5 minutes from the border, budget hotels, Dongmen street food, easy HK access.
- Cons: dated, less glamorous, some areas are chaotic.

🌊 Nanshan & Shekou (南山/蛇口) — expat & seaside vibe
Nanshan is Shenzhen's tech hub and home to most expats; Shekou at its southern tip has the Sea World waterfront, international restaurants and a relaxed seaside feel.
- Pros: Western food & cafes, waterfront promenades, quieter & greener, close to OCT-LOFT and Nantou.
- Cons: further from the border and from Luohu attractions.
- Best for: longer stays, families, anyone who wants a more "liveable" base.
🎡 OCT (华侨城) — green & creative
Between Futian and Nanshan: the theme-park district with OCT-LOFT, Window of the World and Splendid China nearby. Tree-lined and relaxed.
- Pros: green, quiet, near attractions, good metro (Lines 1/2).
- Cons: fewer big malls, less nightlife.
- Best for: families with kids, theme-park plans, couples who like calm.
