Shenzhen Bougainvillea Flower Week 2026: Lianhuashan Park Main Venue + Bao'an Bougainvillea Valley (Free Entry in November)

Shenzhen's most beautiful seasonal event in November is the annual Bougainvillea Flower Viewing Week. The main venue is Lianhuashan Park in Futian, and in past years it has kicked off in early to mid-November, with a display area of over 200,000 square metres and nearly 320 varieties. Running alongside it are a park coffee festival, the Shenzhen Book Fair and a lawn music festival. This article rounds up the 2026 information, transport from three checkpoints, and the best times for photos.

As November arrives, one of the best seasonal events in Shenzhen is the annual Bougainvillea Flower Viewing Week. The bougainvillea is the city flower of Shenzhen, and the main venue is always Lianhuashan Park in Futian, which in past years has kicked off in early to mid-November, with Bougainvillea Valley Park in Bao'an as a sub-venue. Entry is free throughout. This guide rounds up what is known for 2026, the best photo spots, concurrent events, and transport from three checkpoints.

1. When does it start in 2026?

As of mid-October 2026, the exact dates of the 2026 Flower Viewing Week are still to be announced by the Shenzhen Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau and Lianhuashan Park. Looking at recent editions: 2025 ran 7 to 21 November, 2024 ran 9 to 17 November, and in 2018 it stretched into early December. So 2026 will most likely also kick off in early to mid-November; it is best to keep the mid-November window open for your trip, and check the Lianhuashan Park official WeChat account before you set off.

2. Main venue: Lianhuashan Park

Lianhuashan Park is located at 6030 Hongli Road, Futian District, covering about 194 hectares with a main peak of 106 metres; from the summit plaza you can look out over the Futian CBD and the Ping An Finance Centre skyline. During the Flower Viewing Week the park becomes a large-scale flower show site. Based on the 2025 layout: the display area exceeded 200,000 square metres, arranged as "one main route, eight zones", bringing together nearly 320 bougainvillea varieties and 20 feature attractions.

  • Zimo Garden: a newly opened bougainvillea specialist garden of about 7,000 square metres, combining display, education and cultivation, with flower walls and educational display shelters.
  • Yuxiu Garden: at the junction of Jingui Road and Honglan Road, about 18,500 square metres, displaying nearly ten thousand bougainvillea bonsai, potted plants and new premium varieties; in past years five new varieties made their debut here.
  • City Flower Market: on the Coconut Grove lawn, gathering many flower companies, where you can buy potted plants and creative products.

Entry to the park is free, opening hours roughly 06:00–23:00. Transport: take Metro Line 3 / Line 4 to Children's Palace Station Exit F and walk about 10 minutes to the South Gate; you can also use Line 2 to Lianhuaxi Station Exit A, Line 3 and Line 10 to Lianhuacun Station, or Line 4 to Lianhuabei Station; buses stop at Guan Shanyue Art Museum Station and Lianhuashan Park Station.

3. Sub-venues and the "two parks, one road"

In recent years the Flower Viewing Week has no longer been confined to a single park, but spread out as "parks plus city arterial roads":

  • Bao'an Bougainvillea Valley Park: built around the Phoenix Mountain ecological landscape, home to the country's first bougainvillea science museum; during the flower show there are flower-sea concerts, open-air films and food and creative markets.
  • Shennan Boulevard: themed flower borders are installed at city gateway spots such as Crystal Island and Xiangmihu Interchange, with a total area of about 2,400 square metres — you can see them just by driving past.

4. Concurrent events: more than flowers

The Flower Viewing Week usually overlaps with several other events, so you can enjoy them all in one go:

  • Park Coffee Festival: gathers over a hundred coffee brands, with music and stamp-collecting interactions, mainly around Lianhuashan Park.
  • Shenzhen Book Fair: main venue at the "Bay Area Eye" Shenzhen Book City Bay Area City in Bao'an, continuing the tradition of "holding a book fair under the blue sky, on the grass".
  • Lawn Music Festival: main venue at the Kite Plaza in Lianhuashan Park; in past years performances were held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in late November (inner-ground tickets usually require free reservation, outer areas are open to all).
  • Guan Shanyue Art Museum: a bougainvillea-themed art exhibition runs at the same time, easy to visit on the way.

5. Transport from three checkpoints

  • Futian Checkpoint: after crossing, take Line 4 directly to Children's Palace Station, then walk about 10 minutes to the South Gate of Lianhuashan Park — the most direct route.
  • Luohu Checkpoint: from Luohu Station take Line 1 to the Convention and Exhibition Centre area, or transfer to Line 3; if you want to make a detour, you can first visit Honghu Park and Donghu Park before heading into Futian.
  • Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint: take Line 13 into Nanshan, then transfer towards Futian; for Bao'an Bougainvillea Valley, take Line 13 / Line 1 and transfer around Line 12 — the journey is longer, so driving or calling a car is recommended.

6. Photography and practical tips

  • Best times: on weekdays, 8 to 10 am and 4 to 6 pm give the softest light; weekends at the same hours are the busiest, so go early if you want clean shots.
  • The core flower area is easiest to reach from the South Gate; to walk the whole route, enter from Children's Palace Station Exit F.
  • During the flower show the park is large and the routes are long, so wear flat shoes; Shenzhen is still hot during the day in October and November, so bring water and sun protection.
  • Entry is free, but note that stepping into flower beds is not allowed — don't cross the line for a photo.

7. Nearby add-ons: a one-day flower route

Lianhuashan Park is superbly located, surrounded by places familiar to visitors, so you can build a half-day route:

  • Guan Shanyue Art Museum: southeast of Lianhuashan Park; during the Flower Viewing Week there is usually a bougainvillea-themed art exhibition, free entry.
  • Shenzhen Book City Central City: around Children's Palace Station; after the park you can go in to read and eat, open until 10 pm.
  • Shenzhen Concert Hall / Civic Centre: in the same district, with lighting displays at night, worth a stroll.
  • Futian COCO Park: around Shopping Park Station, a hub for dinner and shopping, just a few metro stops from Lianhuashan.

If you only want to see the flowers, 2 to 3 hours is enough; to combine the Park Coffee Festival and Shenzhen Book Fair, plan a full day: park in the morning, book city at midday, back to the park in the afternoon for sunset photos. Weekends during the flower show are extremely busy, so if you're bringing small children, a carrier or a lightweight stroller is best.

Transport notes: Lianhuashan Park has several entrances — the South Gate (Hongli Road) is closest to the core flower area, and the Northeast Gate is near a bus stop; you can walk there from Metro Line 3 / Line 4 Children's Palace Station Exit F, or Line 4 Lianhuabei Station, in 10 to 15 minutes. Park opening hours are roughly 06:00–23:00; early morning and dusk offer the best light and the smallest crowds.

8. Lianhuashan Park official information + a one-day route of nearby free cultural venues

The main venue of the Flower Viewing Week, Lianhuashan Park, has plenty of official figures worth knowing, and after the flower area you can walk to three free venues next door — an afternoon is enough:

  • Lianhuashan Park (6030 Hongli Road, Futian District): the park covers 181 hectares and takes its name from seven hills embracing one another in the shape of a blooming lotus; it officially opened in June 1997. The main peak is about 100 metres above sea level, and at the summit is a 4,000-square-metre bronze statue plaza of Deng Xiaoping, with views over the Futian CBD; inside there is also a roughly 50,000-square-metre Lotus Lake and a 20,000-square-metre Kite Plaza lawn. Opening hours 06:00–23:00, free. It is about 160 metres from Metro Children's Palace Station Exit F1, a 3-minute walk — the most direct spot from Futian Checkpoint among the three checkpoints. Enquiries: 0755-83067950 (08:30–17:30).
  • Guan Shanyue Art Museum (6026 Hongli Road, Futian District): a national public-interest art museum named after the Lingnan School master Guan Shanyue, with 813 donated works by Guan Shanyue in its collection; free entry, 09:00–17:00 (last entry 16:30), closed Mondays. Metro Line 3 Lianhuacun Station Exit D, or walk from Children's Palace Station Exit F2.
  • Shenzhen Museum (History and Folk Culture Museum) (Area A, Civic Centre, Futian District): next to Shenzhen Library, the Concert Hall and Central Book City, free entry; four permanent exhibitions — "Ancient Shenzhen", "Modern Shenzhen", "Shenzhen's Reform and Opening-Up History" and "Shenzhen Folk Culture" — let you take in the whole sweep of Shenzhen's history in half an hour to an hour.
  • Central Book City (Shenzhen Book City Central City) (Fuzhong 1st Road, Futian District): around Children's Palace Station, a one-stop spot for books, food and creative products, open into the evening — a safe bet even when it rains.

A reminder: weekends during the flower show are extremely busy, so visiting on a weekday morning is recommended; the South Gate of Lianhuashan (Hongli Road) is closest to the core flower area. Suggested one-day route: Lianhuashan for flowers in the morning → Guan Shanyue Art Museum at midday → Shenzhen Museum + Central Book City in the afternoon. All three checkpoints work: from Luohu Checkpoint take Line 1 and transfer to Line 3 / Line 4 to Children's Palace Station; from Futian Checkpoint take Line 4 directly to Children's Palace Station; from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint take Line 13, transfer to Line 2, then transfer to Line 4.

The dates, display zones and event arrangements above are subject to the latest announcements from Lianhuashan Park, the Shenzhen Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau and the organisers.
