Shenzhen in November 2026: 10 Seasonal Events (Bougainvillea Show, Book Fair, Coffee Festival, Markets, Autumn Leaves) plus Border Routes

Shenzhen in November 2026: 10 Seasonal Events (Bougainvillea Show, Book Fair, Coffee Festival, Markets, Autumn Leaves) plus Border Routes

November is Shenzhen at its best: the bougainvillea show and coffee festival at Lianhuashan Park, Reading Month and its book fair, the Park Culture Season's 20th year and the Concert Hall festival all fall in the same four weeks. Ten seasonal events with official dates where published, plus addresses, metro exits, costs and four border routes; unpublished dates are flagged.

November is the best month to be in Shenzhen. Daytime temperatures sit around 24–28°C, humidity drops, rain is rare, and almost every annual event lands in the same four weeks: the bougainvillea show at Lianhuashan Park, the park's coffee festival, Shenzhen Reading Month and its book fair, the Park Culture Season, the Shenzhen Concert Hall's Belt and Road music festival, and the hi-tech fair at the end of the month. This is an overview for Hong Kong visitors: ten seasonal events, each with an address and metro exit, routes from four border crossings, and three real food stops in Luohu, Futian and Nanshan.

Think of this as the overview plus border logistics. For a deep dive on a single event, we have separate pieces: the bougainvillea flower week guide (main venue plus the Bao'an site), the Shenzhen Reading Month guide (book fair and author talks), and the autumn bald cypress guide (seven parks). This article answers a different question: which days to go, how to get there, and which border crossing is quickest.

Two ground rules. Where the organiser has published dates, we use those dates. Where dates are not yet published — the bougainvillea show and coffee festival usually confirm in late October or early November — we say "held around the same time in previous years, subject to official announcement". Check the organiser's latest notice before you travel.

1. Bougainvillea show at Lianhuashan Park

Bougainvillea is Shenzhen's city flower. The municipal government's park pages record that the show began in 1999, moved to Lianhuashan Park in 2003, and grew from a flower display into a full festival with themed gardens, a city flower market, new cultivars and cultural events. In recent years it has opened in November: 7–21 November in 2025, 10–24 November in 2024. Dates for 2026 had not been published when this article was written, so expect the first half of November, running about two weeks.

  • Address: Lianhuashan Park, 6030 Hongli Road, Futian District
  • Metro: Line 3 or Line 4 to Children's Palace Station (少年宫站), Exit F1 or E, then walk to the south gate
  • Hours: 6am to 11pm, last entry 10:30pm; park hotline 0755-83067950
  • Cost: free, no booking needed for the park or the show
  • Look out for: the terraced bougainvillea beds around Yuxiu Garden, the flower corridor, and the city view from the summit plaza

2. Lianhuashan Park coffee festival

The coffee festival started in 2023 and by 2025 was in its third edition, running 7–21 November alongside the flower show on the park's Yefenglin Lawn. More than 100 coffee shops from across China and overseas set up stalls — pour-over specialists, creative signature drinks, plus crafts, design and lifestyle stalls. Organisers and participating brands state free entry with drinks paid separately. The 2026 dates will follow the flower show's announcement.

  • Address: Yefenglin Lawn, Lianhuashan Park
  • Metro: Line 3 or 4 to Children's Palace Station, Exit F1/E, then follow signs inside the park
  • Cost: free entry; a pour-over or signature drink runs roughly ¥25–45 at stall prices
  • Tip: weekends between noon and 3pm are the busiest; go on a weekday or before 10am for photos

3. Park Culture Season, marking its 20th year

The Park Culture Season is run by the Shenzhen Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau and has traditionally opened in November with the bougainvillea show. 2026 is its 20th year, and the bureau launched a park merchandise design competition on 9 October as a curtain-raiser. During flower events the bureau brings in companies and charities to run park markets: plants and garden goods, light food and drinks, intangible-heritage crafts, young designers' stalls, second-hand swaps, books and souvenirs. Entry is free. Watch the bureau's WeChat accounts for the weekly activity calendar.

  • Venues: parks citywide — Lianhuashan Park is the main site, with satellite events at Shenzhen Bay Park, Xianhu Botanical Garden, Yuanboyuan, Donghu Park and Central Park
  • Metro: depends on the park; see items 1, 9 and 10 for the main ones
  • Cost: free; some performances and workshops need advance booking
  • Tip: the official weekly calendar is published a few days ahead — check it the week you travel

4. Shenzhen Reading Month, 27th edition

Shenzhen Reading Month has run since 2000; the municipal government's own reporting describes it as having been held for 26 consecutive years, making 2026 the 27th. It traditionally opens in November and spans the month. For reference, the 26th edition opened on 2 November 2025 with more than 300 themed programmes and over 3,000 events. Hong Kong takes part officially: the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau ran about 30 activities in Shenzhen from 2 to 30 November 2025, including a free "Hong Kong in Type" exhibition and book fair in the atrium of UpperHills. Dates and highlights for 2026 follow the organiser's announcements.

  • Venues: libraries, the seven large book cities and venues such as UpperHills, spread across the city
  • Metro: Shenzhen Book City CBD Store — Line 3 or 4 to Children's Palace, Exit D; UpperHills — Line 10 to Donggualing
  • Cost: almost everything is free; talks and workshops may need online sign-up
  • Tip: the annual top-ten books list is usually announced in mid-November (11 November in 2025) — a good moment to buy

5. Shenzhen Book Fair and book city events

The book fair is the centrepiece of Reading Month. Its main venue has usually been around the Futian convention centre and the book city network; the 7th edition in 2025 drew 920,000 visits, according to municipal government reporting. Beyond the fair, the city's seven large book cities — the CBD Store, Luohu, Nanshan, Longhua and others — run free events, limited-time discounts and signings. Entry is free. The 8th edition's dates and venue will be confirmed by the publisher group.

  • Address: Shenzhen Book City CBD Store, 2014 Fuzhong 1st Road, Lianhua Street, Futian District
  • Metro: Line 3 or 4 to Children's Palace Station, Exit D (per Futian government information); Exit C2 also works
  • Hours: about 9:30am–10pm, with later closing Friday and Saturday; check official notices
  • Cost: free entry; there is a 24-hour reading room and study area inside
  • Combine with: a straight walk from the book city to the south gate of Lianhuashan Park, so you can do books, flowers and coffee in one trip

6. Shenzhen Concert Hall: November programme already published

This is the most date-certain item in this list. The Concert Hall's official site has published its November 2026 programme, which falls inside the Belt and Road International Music Festival: Antje Weithaas playing Bach's complete sonatas and partitas on 1 November at 7:30pm; Krystian Zimerman's piano recital on 5 November at 8pm; a guqin concert on 6 November at 7:30pm; an organ concert on 7 November at 7:30pm; Khatia Buniatishvili's piano recital on 13 November at 8pm; the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on 27 November at 8pm; and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra on 29 November at 3:30pm. Tickets are sold through the hall's official channels; box office hotline 0755-8284-1888.

  • Address: 2016 Fuzhong 1st Road, Futian District, between the library, Children's Palace and Lianhuashan Park
  • Metro: Line 4 to Children's Palace Station, Exit D, or Line 3, Exit E
  • Cost: varies by concert; buy through official channels and bring your Home Return Permit for real-name ticketing
  • Tip: evening concerts start at 7:30pm or 8pm and finish in time for the last metro back towards Futian port — only a few stops from Children's Palace

7. China Hi-Tech Fair, 26–28 November

The China Hi-Tech Fair is Shenzhen's largest national-level technology exhibition. The organiser has confirmed the 28th edition for 26–28 November 2026 at Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center in Bao'an, with zones covering AI and robotics, semiconductors, low-altitude economy and new energy, targeting 400,000 square metres. It is the one large event in this article whose dates and venue are confirmed on the organiser's own website. Schedules can shift, so check the official site before travelling.

  • Address: Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, 1 Zhancheng Road, Fuhai Street, Bao'an District
  • Metro: Line 12 or 20 to Shenzhen World North Station, Exit C1/C2 for the north lobby; or Shenzhen World Station, Exit C1/C2 for the south lobby
  • Cost: the public normally pre-registers online and enters with real-name verification, so bring your Home Return Permit
  • Tip: the halls are vast — pick one or two zones; allow 60–80 minutes from Futian port

8. Bald cypress at Honghu Park

The municipal urban management bureau's page for Honghu Park states that the bald cypress grove on the lake shore in the park's southern half is the largest planted stand in South China. Foliage is green through spring and summer, then turns dark red in autumn and winter — the bureau sums the park up as "cypress woods in autumn, waterbirds in winter". Colour usually starts in late November and peaks from December to January, with reflections on the lake the main draw. The park is free and open 6am to 11pm.

  • Address: 2023 Wenjin North Road, Luohu District; park hotline 0755-25628811
  • Metro: Line 7 to Honghu Station, Exit B — about 230 metres, a four-minute walk per the official transport guide
  • Cost: free
  • Why here: Line 7 runs straight from both Luohu and the rebuilt Huanggang port, making this the easiest autumn-leaf stop to combine with shopping
  • Inside the park: the "Lotus Space" on Lotus Fairy Island houses a public library and reading room

9. Xianhu Botanical Garden: cypress, fossil forest and Hongfa Temple

Xianhu Botanical Garden is a national 4A-rated scenic area covering 546 hectares, with bald cypress groves, a fossil forest, a desert plant area, lakes and Hongfa Temple. In late autumn and winter the cypress turns from green to orange and then deep red, reflected in the water — one of Shenzhen's best-known seasonal spots. It is also one of the city's top ten birdwatching sites, with more than 120 species recorded. Tickets are ¥15 for adults and ¥5 for ages 7–18, with free entry for children aged six and under and for visitors aged 60 and over. Paid entry runs 8am–6pm; 6–8am and 6–9:30pm are free periods (Hongfa Temple is open 8am–6pm).

  • Address: 160 Xianhu Road, Liantang Street, Luohu District
  • Metro: Line 2 to Xianhu Road Station, Exit C3, then bus M102 (¥2) to the garden terminus; M102 also runs from Liantang port
  • Cost: ¥15 for adults, per the official booking system and on-site notices; shuttle buses inside cost extra
  • Tip: the site is large — ride up and walk down; book through the official WeChat account on holidays

10. Shenzhen Bay Park and Futian Mangrove: bird season opens

Shenzhen sits on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway, and November to March is the prime birdwatching window. The north shore of Shenzhen Bay is an international staging post with more than 200 recorded species, including the black-faced spoonbill, a first-class nationally protected bird, along with grey herons, great egrets, pied avocets and black-headed gulls feeding on the mudflats. For a more structured visit, try Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, which faces Hong Kong's Mai Po across the river, or book a guided visit to the Neilingding–Futian national nature reserve. All three are free.

  • Addresses: Shenzhen Bay Park on Binhai Avenue, Nanshan; Futian Mangrove Ecological Park at Furong Road and Xinzhou Road, Futian
  • Metro: Line 9 to Shenzhen Bay Park Station, Exit D2; for Futian Mangrove, Line 3 to Yitian Station, Exit D, or Line 7 to Shawei Station, Exit B
  • Cost: free; reserve guided visits through the official mini-programme
  • Tip: bring binoculars, never chase or approach the birds, and go one to two hours either side of high tide

Bonus: Happy Valley's Halloween event runs to 22 November

If rides appeal more than flowers, Happy Valley's Halloween "Thrill Festival" is officially scheduled to run to 22 November, with ten haunted houses and three IP zones — one of the few ticketed theme park events in the first half of November. See our Shenzhen Halloween 2026 guide for details. After that the park returns to normal operation, with prices and hours set by the official ticketing platform.

  • Address: 18 Qiaocheng West Street, Shahe Street, Nanshan District
  • Metro: Line 1 or 2 to Window of the World Station, about a 10-minute walk
  • Cost: ticketed; check the official platform for live prices, which vary between peak and off-peak days

Border routes: Luohu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay and Liantang

November events are spread across Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Bao'an, so choosing a port is really choosing a cluster of activities. Journey times below are estimates based on official route maps and mapping apps.

Three practical notes. First, November is peak season for trade fairs and weddings in Shenzhen, so weekend dinners and hotels cost more — book early. Second, parks and the flower show are quietest on weekday daytime; if you can take a weekday off, the experience is far better. Third, sunset in November comes around 5:40pm, so be in place by 4:30pm if you want golden-hour photos.

Three real food stops, one per district

Flower shows, book cities and parks all involve a lot of walking. These three places cover Luohu, Futian and Nanshan; prices are drawn from official pricing or third-party listings and may change, so treat them as a guide.

Luohu: Luckin Coffee (Guomao branch)

  • Address: ground-floor lobby of Kaili Hotel, Jiamin Road, Luohu District, by the Shenzhen International Trade Centre
  • Metro: Line 1 to Guomao Station, Exit B, about a 220-metre walk
  • Price: coconut latte, standard americano and similar drinks are commonly ¥9.9 and up with app or Meituan vouchers; check live prices in the app
  • Why: the fastest cheap coffee after clearing Luohu port, with consistent chain quality

Futian: Tanchu Zhongshan Family Kitchen (COCO Park)

  • Address: L3C-006A, Level 3, Phase 1, Xinghe COCO Park, 268 Fuhua 3rd Road, Futian District
  • Metro: Line 1 or Line 3 to Shopping Park Station, Exit C, about a two-minute walk
  • Price: signature Shiqi roast pigeon from about ¥49 each, with most dishes ¥38–88 (third-party listings)
  • Why: two stops from Children's Palace, so it works well after the park and the book city, and suits families

Nanshan: Viet Xiao Pin (Coastal City)

  • Address: Coastal City shopping centre, 33 Wenxin 5th Road, Yuehai Street, Nanshan District
  • Metro: Line 2, 8 or 11 to Houhai Station, Exit D1, about a four-minute walk
  • Price: beef brisket or beef ball pho around ¥34 a bowl; other Vietnamese dishes roughly ¥28–60 (third-party listings)
  • Why: a cheap group meal after crossing at Shenzhen Bay and seeing the winter birds

Watch out for: APEC summit traffic in November

The Shenzhen government has confirmed that the city hosts the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2026. Around the venue in the Xiangmihu area expect road controls and tighter security, and some port and public transport arrangements may be adjusted. If your trip coincides with the summit, leave earlier, allow extra time and follow official port and transport notices — see our Shenzhen APEC 2026 guide. Trade shows also cluster in November; see November trade shows in Shenzhen for the full calendar.

FAQ

What should I wear in Shenzhen in November, and does it rain?

Expect 24–28°C by day and 18–22°C at night, with a noticeable evening drop, so a light jacket and trousers are enough. November is one of the drier months, but showers still happen — a folding umbrella is worth carrying. Temperatures fall quickly in parks after sunset, so bring an extra layer for children and older relatives.

Do I need a ticket or a booking for the bougainvillea show?

No. Lianhuashan Park is free and open to the public, and the show itself has no admission charge under the urban management bureau's arrangements in previous years. Individual indoor pavilions, workshops or guided tours may have their own arrangements, so check the bureau's official WeChat account for updates.

Which border crossing is quickest for Lianhuashan Park?

Futian port. Take Line 4 to Children's Palace Station — about 12 minutes — then Exit F1 or E and walk into the park. From Luohu, take Line 1 and change to Line 3 or 4; door to park is about 30 minutes including clearance. Shenzhen Bay is not worth it for the flower show alone, since it drops you in Nanshan.

When is the bald cypress at its reddest? Will late November be too early?

Colour usually starts in late November, with December and January the peak. The urban management bureau's Honghu Park page confirms the dark red autumn and winter foliage, so late November is worth a visit, but for a full wall of red aim for mid-December to January, and allow for year-to-year variation in temperature.

Can Hong Kong visitors enter the hi-tech fair and the book fair?

Yes. The China Hi-Tech Fair is open to the public, normally after online visitor pre-registration, with real-name entry so bring your Home Return Permit. The book fair and book city events are usually free. Major mainland exhibitions use real-name registration, tickets are non-transferable, and you must carry the original permit.
