Indoor climbing has become one of the fastest-growing sports for Hong Kong visitors heading to Shenzhen. A day pass at a Hong Kong bouldering gym costs HKD 198-288 for adults, while a proper Shenzhen climbing gym charges around CNY 120 for a single entry, stays open late, and needs no booking for solo bouldering. This guide covers eight real gyms across Luohu, Futian and Nanshan, with the exact address, the nearest metro station and exit, single-entry and monthly-card prices, shoe rental, beginner classes, plus a safety section for first-timers.
Shenzhen climbing and bouldering at a glance (2026)
Shenzhen now has more than 50 climbing venues (one directory lists 54), mostly in Futian, Nanshan and Luohu, with the rest spread across Bao'an, Longhua, Longgang and Guangming. Here are the eight covered below.
- Price benchmark: Banana Climbing publishes CNY 120 for a single entry, CNY 950 for a 10-visit card and CNY 599 for a monthly card (checked 12 October 2026). Public sports venues in Luohu charge CNY 128 for three hours through the official district booking channel.
- All three border districts covered: two gyms in Luohu, two in Futian and four in Nanshan, every one of them walkable from a metro station.
- Beginner-friendly: six of the eight run coached intro sessions or have dedicated beginner areas, and bouldering needs no rope or partner.
- Remember: you sign a waiver on entry, socks are required with rental shoes, and you take your shoes off before stepping onto the bouldering mats.

Luohu: two gyms near the border
1. Allez Climbing Gym (Animated Comics Building)
One of the few Luohu venues with both high walls and a bouldering area. It sits on the fourth floor of the Animated Comics Building, an office block where the entrance is easy to miss, so head straight for the lift. Inside there are six climbing walls of different grades, a lead wall and a bouldering section, which keeps beginners and regulars out of each other's way.
- Address: Room 401, 4th floor, Animated Comics Building, 2013 Yijing Road, Luohu District.
- Metro: Lines 2 and 5, Huangbeiling Station, about a five-minute walk; check the exit in Amap.
- Price: live pricing in the gym's official WeChat mini-program; comparable Shenzhen gyms charged CNY 100-180 for a single session in 2026, with intro classes around CNY 150-300 and shoe rental CNY 10-20.
- Best for: anyone curious about lead climbing, or first-timers who want a coach to walk them through the basics; roughly 20 minutes from Luohu Port.
2. Lantian Climbing (Yitian Holiday Plaza)
Lantian is one of Shenzhen's older climbing brands, with branches across Luohu, Futian and Nanshan. This one sits in a residential podium beside the Yitian Holiday Plaza shopping area, a short walk from Dongmen Old Street, so you can pair a shopping trip with a session.
- Address: L2-04, Building 1, Yitian Yulong Huafu, 1009 Aiguo Road, Cuizhu Subdistrict, Luohu District.
- Metro: Metro Line 3, Cuizhu Station area, then a short walk; confirm the exit and walking route in Amap.
- Price: official mini-program; comparable venues in the district charged CNY 100-180 per session in 2026, with monthly cards around CNY 400-600.
- Best for: staying in Luohu or arriving via Luohu and Liantang ports; it opens late enough for an after-work session.
There is also an official public option: the climbing facility at Luohu's public sports venues is open year-round and can be booked online through the Luohu Wenti Tong WeChat account or the iShenzhen app for CNY 128 per person for three hours. Coaches and route variety are among the best in the district, and the wall can host events for 400 people (Shenzhen Media Group, 27 July 2026).
Futian: two gyms by the mall belt
3. Banana Climbing (Link CentralWalk)
The most convenient of the eight: cross at Lok Ma Chau or Futian Port, take Line 4 to Convention and Exhibition Center Station and walk 190 m from Exit B into the mall. The 300 sq m outlet focuses on bouldering, has a lounge area and, according to the brand, free bananas. Note the outdoor wall only opens at weekends and on public holidays, and stays shut in the rain.
- Address: L1017, Link CentralWalk, 3 Fuhua 1st Road, Futian District (near the south entrance).
- Metro: Line 4, Convention and Exhibition Center Station Exit B, about 190 m (three minutes).
- Opening hours: indoor bouldering 10:00-22:00; outdoor wall 13:00-22:00 at weekends and on public holidays, closed in rain.

- Best for: a first taste of climbing on a short Shenzhen trip, with the rest of the day left for the malls around the convention centre.
4. Banana Climbing (iN City Plaza)
One of the largest indoor climbing gyms in the city at 1,200 sq m. Besides bouldering it has a lead wall and auto-belays, which means you can climb the high wall on your own without a partner to belay you. It sits on Shennan Avenue, about 600 m from Exit F of Science Museum Station.
- Address: Units L5-01 and L5-02, iN City Plaza, 1095 Shennan Avenue, Futian District.
- Metro: Lines 1 and 6, Science Museum Station Exit F, about 600 m on foot.
- Opening hours: the official website lists 10:00-23:00 Monday to Friday; weekend hours are slightly shorter, so check the store notice before you go.

- Best for: solo visitors and beginners who want high-wall climbing without needing a belay partner.
Nanshan: four gyms from Houhai to Shekou
5. Banana Climbing (Houhai Hui, the Nanshan flagship)
The easiest option if you cross at Shenzhen Bay Port: change to Lines 2 or 11 and get off at Houhai Station, where Exit A2 leads straight into the Houhai Hui mall and level B2. At 1,000 sq m this is one of the brand's Shenzhen flagships, and its signature feature is a 12 m outdoor auto-belay wall that is lit up at night.
- Address: B2-01 and the Mountain Plaza, Houhai Hui, 3288 Houhaibin Road, Nanshan District.
- Metro: Lines 2 and 11, Houhai Station Exit A2, then the escalator down to B2.
- Opening hours: bouldering 10:00-23:00; outdoor wall 17:00-22:00 on weekdays and 13:00-22:00 at weekends and on public holidays, closed in rain.
- Price (official): CNY 120 a visit, CNY 950 for 10, monthly CNY 599, annual CNY 4,799; shoe rental about CNY 15.
- Best for: combining bouldering with high-wall climbing in one trip; Coastal City and MixC are within reach afterwards.
6. NerdCave Bouldering (Guimiao Road)
NerdCave is a dedicated bouldering-only gym: no high walls, no ropes, built around a climbing community with frequent route resets and a calm atmosphere that suits people who would rather not perform in front of a crowd. Coaches are on hand to walk beginners through the rules, including how to fall properly. The trade-off is shorter opening hours than the mall gyms.
- Address: Room 4033, 4th floor, Block B, Xiangnan Ruifeng Commercial Centre, 22 Guimiao Road, Nanshan District.
- Metro: Line 12, Nanshan Station Exit E2, about eight minutes on foot; from Shenzhen Bay Port you can also take bus M242 to Guimiao Xincun and walk.
- Opening hours: 15:00-22:00 Monday to Friday; 13:00-22:00 at weekends and on public holidays (press report, 2026).
- Price: a single-person day pass including shoe rental is sold through official booking channels such as Klook; Hong Kong press reported about HKD 98 per person in 2026. Fixed rates follow the gym's mini-program or official product page.
- Best for: bouldering only, avoiding mall crowds, and getting on-the-spot coaching for the basics.
7. DynoClimbing (Bao'neng Taikoo Shing, Shekou)
This basement spot in the north block of Bao'neng Taikoo Shing has long been a neighbourhood climbing venue and is now operated as DynoClimbing. The mall setting means you can eat or catch a film straight after. It is mainly bouldering with some graded walls, and works well for families or a group of friends.
- Address: GD203, basement level 2, north block, Bao'neng Taikoo Shing, 2233 Zhongxin Road, Shekou Subdistrict, Nanshan District.
- Metro: Line 2, Sea World Station area, then a walk or short ride; check the exact exit in Amap.
- Price: live rates in the official DynoClimbing mini-program; comparable Nanshan gyms charged CNY 100-180 per visit in 2026, with monthly cards around CNY 400-700 and occasional newcomer offers.
- Best for: staying in Shekou or Sea World, or bringing children along with a mall trip.
8. Triple Top Climbing (Shenzhen Bay Eco-Park)
Located in the podium of Block B, Tower 10 of the Shenzhen Bay Science and Technology Eco-Park, this gym lives off the office crowd, so lunchtime and after work are the busiest hours. It is bouldering only, with routes from V0 upwards, a generous beginner section and prices on the lower end for Nanshan.
- Address: Room 203, 2nd floor, podium of Block B, Tower 10, Shenzhen Bay Science and Technology Eco-Park, Gaoxin South Ring Road, Yuehai Subdistrict, Nanshan District.
- Metro: Line 1, Hi-Tech Park Station area, then a walk; confirm the exit in Amap.
- Price: official mini-program or live rates on Dianping and Meituan; comparable indoor bouldering gyms charged CNY 80-120 for a session in 2026, with monthly cards around CNY 400-600.
- Best for: cheaper sessions and focused bouldering practice, with quiet evenings in the tech park.
Single entry, punch card or monthly card?
Shenzhen gyms price the same way as Hong Kong ones: a day pass, a punch card, a monthly or annual card, and coached intro classes. Based on 2026 figures:
| Ticket | 2026 price | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single entry | CNY 120 (chain brand, official); typically CNY 100-180 | One or two visits a month, or trying several gyms |
| 10-visit card | CNY 950 (about CNY 95 a visit) | Climbing once a week at the same brand |
| Monthly and annual | Monthly CNY 599; quarterly CNY 1,299; annual CNY 4,799 | Twice a week or more, bringing the cost below CNY 50 a session |
| Beginner class | About CNY 150-300 for 45-60 minutes with a coach, usually including entry and gear | Absolute beginners who want to learn falling and basic movement |
| Shoe rental | About CNY 10-20 a pair (CNY 15 at the chain brand) | Anyone without their own shoes; socks are mandatory |
Industry coverage in 2026 put mainland gym tickets in a CNY 100-180 band, with tickets making up roughly 80 per cent of a gym's revenue, punch cards averaging around CNY 400 and monthly cards around CNY 700. Whether a monthly card pays off therefore depends on how often you climb: at CNY 599, five visits in a month beats paying per session.
Climbing safety for first-timers
- Learn to fall first: most bouldering injuries happen on the way down, not on the way up. Land on both feet, bend your knees, keep your hands crossed over your chest, and never put out one hand or sit back.
- Never stand under a climber: do not walk or wait directly beneath someone on the wall. It is the single biggest hazard in a bouldering gym and the most basic piece of etiquette.
- Shoes off the mats: take your shoes off (or wear gym slippers) before stepping onto the bouldering mats, and look where you are landing before walking away.
- Warm up properly: climbing is hard on fingers, wrists and shoulders. Spend at least five minutes on wrist circles, shoulder stretches and a few squats before you get on the wall.
- Push with your legs: the classic beginner mistake is hauling yourself up with your arms and being exhausted within two minutes. Keep your weight over your feet and your arms will last far longer.
- Rental shoes should be snug: less space between foot and shoe is better. Socks are required for hygiene and safety.
- Declare health conditions: gyms list high blood pressure, heart disease, epilepsy, asthma, fractures, dislocated joints, pregnancy and alcohol as reasons not to climb, and the rules apply to everyone.
- You will sign a waiver: every gym requires one, but note that a waiver does not absolve a gym of liability for its own negligence. Keep valuables in a locker.
- Follow staff instructions: equipment is taken out of service for inspection when a fault appears, and auto-belays usually have a weight limit, often under 100 to 110 kg. Ask before you use one.
- Stop before you are wrecked: for a first session, stop at 1.5 to 2 hours, once your arms ache and your fingers feel sore. Doing more will only make the next morning miserable.
FAQ
Do I need my own gear for a first visit?
No. All eight gyms rent climbing shoes for about CNY 10-20 a pair (CNY 15 at the chain brand), and bouldering needs no rope or harness. Wear stretchy trousers rather than a skirt or stiff jeans, and bring socks. Roped climbing does require the gym's harness and belay device, and it is better to use theirs for a first session than to buy your own.
What is the difference between bouldering and roped climbing?
Bouldering is climbing on walls around four to five metres high with no rope, protected by thick mats, which you can do alone and is the friendliest option for beginners. Roped climbing means 10 to 18 m walls and either a partner or an auto-belay, and some gyms require an in-store certification test first. Start with bouldering, or pay for a coached intro class.
Which gym is easiest from Hong Kong?
From Luohu Port, Allez is about 20 minutes away via Huangbeiling Station. From Futian Port or Lok Ma Chau, take Banana Climbing at Link CentralWalk, 190 m from Exit B of Convention and Exhibition Center Station. From Shenzhen Bay Port, use Banana Climbing at Houhai Hui, straight out of Houhai Station Exit A2, or take bus M242 to NerdCave at Guimiao Xincun. All of them work as a same-day round trip.
Do I need to book, and can I pay the Hong Kong way?
Walk-ins are usually fine on weekdays, but book a day ahead through WeChat mini-programs, official accounts or Meituan and Dianping at weekends, on holidays and for beginner classes; some classes are booked over WhatsApp. Everything is priced in renminbi, and WeChat Pay HK, AlipayHK and cash all work, with some gyms accepting Hong Kong credit cards.
Can children climb?
Yes, with conditions: under-18s generally need an adult present, under-12s must wear a helmet for roped climbing, and child pricing and dedicated areas vary by venue. Bouldering-only gyms may also have height and weight limits, so call ahead to check whether there is a children's session and a coach available that day.
