🚗 Two Ways to Park at a Crossing
- Park-and-walk: drive straight into the port car park, park, then walk to immigration. Heung Yuen Wai (Liantang) is currently the only land crossing designed for this — and it requires an online booking.
- Park-and-ride: most crossings (Luohu, Lok Ma Chau, Shenzhen Bay) sit in or next to a closed area or restricted road on the Hong Kong side, so private cars cannot drive in. Instead you park in Sheung Shui, Tuen Mun or San Tin and continue by East Rail or bus.
Rule number one: confirm whether your chosen crossing allows parking on the Hong Kong side before you set off.
🚉 Luohu Port (羅湖口岸): Closed Zone — Park at Sheung Shui
Opening hours: 06:30–24:00 daily.
Hong Kong side: the Luohu Control Point area is a border closed area with no public car park, and private cars cannot enter. The practical option is to park near Sheung Shui Station and take one stop on the East Rail line:
- Po Shek Wu Estate Car Park (寶石湖邨停車場), Sheung Shui — close to the station with an MTR park-and-ride arrangement.
- Choi Yuen Plaza Car Park (彩園廣場停車場), Sheung Shui — opposite the station area, cheaper hourly rates than urban car parks.
- Money tip: a through-fare from the city to Lo Wu includes the premium border section; getting off and back on at Sheung Shui often costs a little less.
Shenzhen side: floors 4 to 7 of the Luohu Port Transport Building hold a large public car park with roughly 556 spaces, including 8 accessible spaces and about 40 EV chargers. If you drive a China-Hong Kong dual-plate car, this is the handiest option in Luohu district — a few minutes' walk to Metro Line 1's Luohu station.
🚌 Futian Port / Lok Ma Chau Spur Line (福田口岸): Also a Closed Zone

Hong Kong side: the Spur Line Control Point is also a closed area with no public car park. Two usual options:

🌉 Shenzhen Bay Port (深圳灣口岸): Restricted Road — No Permit, No Entry
Opening hours: 06:30–24:00 daily.
⚠️ Key point: the roads serving Shenzhen Bay Port are restricted roads. Apart from taxis, vehicles need a valid Closed Road Permit (i.e. a China-Hong Kong plate). Private cars without one cannot drive to Shenzhen Bay Port.
Alternative: park in Tuen Mun or Tin Shui Wai (Tuen Mun Town Plaza, V City and similar offer daily rates around HK$80–120) and take Citybus route B3X to Shenzhen Bay Port.
Shenzhen side rates: small cars pay ¥10 for the first hour, then ¥5 per half hour (about ¥10 per hour), with no daily cap — fine for a day trip, expensive if you leave the car all day. Advance booking via the "深圳口岸發布" account may apply at peak times; on-site notices prevail.
After immigration: Metro Line 13's Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint station (exits B and C) puts you straight at the port, quick onward to Houhai, Nanshan and Shekou.
🅿️ Heung Yuen Wai / Liantang (香園圍口岸): The Only Drive-In Crossing
Opening hours: 07:00–22:00 daily.
Heung Yuen Wai is Hong Kong's first "drive-in" crossing: park in the car park and walk to immigration — no interchange needed. The public car park has about 400 spaces, is run by Wilson Parking, and includes EV charging.
- Rates (effective 4 August 2026): private cars pay HK$18 per hour, HK$180 for a 24-hour day park, or HK$96 overnight (18:00–08:00). Motorcycles pay HK$6 per hour or HK$48 per day. EV charging is HK$2.5 per kWh.
- Online booking required: the operator states that only vehicles with an online booking are admitted — but Car Park 1 may accept on-the-spot bookings subject to availability (don't count on it at weekends, public holidays or the day before a holiday). Book between 30 minutes and 7 days ahead; Car Park 1 has a 2-hour minimum and 7-day maximum stay.
- Late arrival and overstay penalties are steep: arriving before your booked slot means no space is allocated; private cars overstaying pay HK$72 per hour for the first two hours, then HK$90 per hour. Changes or cancellations cost HK$100 each time.

🌙 Lok Ma Chau / Huanggang (落馬洲口岸): 24-Hour Crossing, Park at San Tin
Opening hours: 24 hours — the only land crossing open all night.
The crossing itself has no public car park and private cars cannot drive up to it. Drivers usually park in a private car park around San Tin Interchange (daily rates from about HK$80–100; some run free shuttle buses to the crossing) and continue by cross-border coach.

- Check first: Luohu, Futian and Lok Ma Chau are closed areas on the Hong Kong side; Shenzhen Bay is a restricted road. Heung Yuen Wai (Liantang) is the only drive-in option today.
- Where booking is required: Heung Yuen Wai always; some Shenzhen-side car parks (Shenzhen Bay at peak times) require a booking through the "深圳口岸發布" WeChat account.
- Do the maths: HK$80–150 a day plus fuel and tunnel tolls versus East Rail fares for three people — driving is not automatically cheaper, and for one or two travellers public transport usually wins.
