Getting to Shenzhen is usually the hardest part of a day trip from Hong Kong. The East Rail line only reaches Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau, so if you are heading to Nanshan, Shekou or Guangming, a cross-border coach is often the fastest option. October 2026 reshaped the network: the rebuilt Huanggang Port opened and the Lok Ma Chau shuttle bus was retired. This guide pulls together official information from the Shenzhen Port Office and the Hong Kong Transport Department: city boarding points, published timetables, listed fares, where coaches drop off at each port, plus ticketing, refunds and baggage rules.
What changed in 2026: the new Huanggang Port and the end of the shuttle bus
Hong Kong's Transport Department states that from 6:30am on 12 October 2026 the old Lok Ma Chau / Huanggang crossing ceased operation and the rebuilt Huanggang Port took over, using a single-location, single-clearance model (“joint inspection, one release”). Travellers queue once, read their document or use facial recognition once, and complete both sets of formalities.
- The Lok Ma Chau–Huanggang shuttle bus (HK$10, every 5–10 minutes, 24 hours under the old system) is retired, because vehicles now drive straight into the port interchange.
- Short-haul cross-border coaches to Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui / Jordan, Kwun Tong, Wan Chai and Tsuen Wan now pick up and set down inside the indoor public transport interchange on the Hong Kong side of the new port, keeping 24-hour cross-border service (Transport Department).
- Seven franchised bus routes (B10, B11, B12, B13, B14, B15 and overnight NB73) and six green minibus routes (44B, 44B1, 78, 79S, N44B, 616S) serve the port, with fares from HK$10.5 to HK$27.6 and HK$9.7 to HK$28.5 respectively.
Which operators run cross-border coaches?
The Shenzhen Port Office publishes an operator table for each land port roughly every two weeks, listing routes, timetables, fares, official WeChat accounts and hotlines. Based on the 17 September 2026 edition, city-to-city services are run by:
- TIL ChinaLink (環島中港通), part of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings: the widest Shenzhen Bay coverage, hotlines (852) 2979 8778 in Hong Kong and (86) 4008 822 322 on the mainland; tickets through shops, its own website, WeChat and Alipay mini programmes.
- China Travel Service bus (中旅巴士): more than 60 route combinations out of Shenzhen Bay Port to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East, Tseung Kwan O, Tuen Mun and Sha Tin.
- Eternal East Bus (永東直通巴士): Shenzhen Bay Port to Mong Kok / Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun.
- Sinoway (華通直通巴) and Yuegang (粵港直通巴): Man Kam To Port to Sheung Shui, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong.
- Huanggang short-haul operators (per the Transport Department): Mong Kok Cross Border All Day 2380 8198, Tsim Sha Tsui Express 2628 3188, Kwun Tong Express 2402 9952, Wan Chai All Day 2596 0782 and China Kong Direct (Tsuen Wan line) 6213 8822.

Where coaches drop off: Luohu, Futian and Nanshan
Shenzhen Bay Port (Nanshan): best for Coastal City, Shekou and Qianhai
Shenzhen Bay Port handles most cross-border coaches; TIL ChinaLink notes that most of its departures use this port because both sides of clearance sit in one building. Coaches drop off beside the passenger terminal, where Metro Line 13 stops at Shenzhen Bay Port station, with Exits B and C the closest to the terminal. Two stops on Line 13 reaches Houhai, putting Coastal City and Shenzhen Bay MixC within a short walk. Return departures from Shenzhen Bay Port are the most frequent of any port, running from about 07:10 to 23:30, with listed fares of 30 to 55.
Huanggang Port (Futian): the only 24-hour land crossing
Huanggang, in Futian district, has long been Shenzhen's only 24-hour land checkpoint and keeps those hours after the rebuilt port opened on 12 October 2026. Short-haul cross-border coaches now use the indoor public transport interchange on the Hong Kong side, so the old shuttle-bus transfer is gone. On the Shenzhen side, the new port connects to Metro Line 7 at Huanggang Port station, one short hop from the Futian CBD; Shuiwei and Fumin are close by for late-night food.
Man Kam To Port (Luohu): Sheung Shui, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong
The Port Office lists Sinoway services from Man Kam To to Sheung Shui (07:10–21:45, every 10–15 minutes, 20), Tsuen Wan (07:30–19:30, hourly, 30) and Kwai Fong (07:30–19:30, hourly, 30). Yuegang runs Man Kam To to Sheung Shui every 30 minutes from 07:10 to 18:30 for 10. Note that the table marks the Prince Edward and China Hong Kong City routes as suspended, so check before you travel.
Grand Mercure Shenzhen Guangming (Guangming district)
You do not have to route through Futian to reach Guangming. Published city departures include Causeway Bay Times Square at 08:30, 13:10 and 18:40; Shun Tak Centre at 09:00, 13:40 and 19:10; Prince Edward at 09:10, 13:45 and 19:15; Langham Place at 09:00 and 19:10 (60); Tsuen Wan at 09:15 and 14:00 and Sha Tin at 08:50 and 13:35 (50). The hotel sits in the Lefu Plaza development on Qide 1st Road, about 200 metres from Exit D of Fenghuangcheng metro station.
Do you get off the coach to clear immigration?
Yes, and your luggage comes with you. TIL ChinaLink's official passenger notice states that passengers must take all their belongings off the coach during clearance, and that vehicles may be reassigned between legs, so the coach you board again is not always the one you started on. Coaches wait up to 20 minutes at the port for passengers clearing formalities; if a delay caused by documents or duty issues means you miss your coach, you can join the next departure subject to seats or pay for another mode of transport yourself.
- Shenzhen Bay Port: single-location clearance. You leave the coach once, walk through Hong Kong exit and mainland entry in the same terminal, then reboard.
- New Huanggang Port (from 12 October 2026): single-location clearance plus joint inspection, one release. Self-service gates support document reading and facial recognition, so travellers queue once and complete both sides in one go; vehicles drive straight in.
- Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai: single-location clearance with direct vehicle access. TIL ChinaLink notes some departures also run via the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, Huanggang, Sha Tau Kok or the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link, so check the routing on your specific departure.
One more detail worth knowing: seats are not tied to your ticket on the Hong Kong and bridge legs, but mainland legs are seated by the seat number printed on your ticket. During peak holidays operators use first-come, first-boarded seating, so you may not get the seat number shown on your booking.
Buying tickets, and the fine print
Official channels are the operator's shops, its own website (TIL ChinaLink: tilchinalink.com), its WeChat official account or mini programme, and its Alipay mini programme; authorised travel agents also resell some departures. Book online with TIL ChinaLink and you receive an e-ticket QR code by SMS or email: arrive 15 minutes before departure and let staff scan the code, with no need to exchange a paper ticket.
- Booking window: the official FAQ says tickets are generally on sale about 45 days ahead; schedules can change around public holidays and festivals.
- Ticket types: most routes offer return-ticket savings, and some sell flexible books of six or ten journeys in either direction, plus open tickets that require seat reservation (no reservation needed for Hong Kong-bound services from Shenzhen Bay Port or Shenzhen Airport).
- On-the-day purchase: you can queue and buy if seats remain, but a full coach means no seat, so book ahead at weekends.
- Route-specific tickets: tickets for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge routes and Shenzhen Bay Port routes are not interchangeable.
Refunds, changes, baggage and typhoons
- Bought officially: TIL ChinaLink states tickets can be refunded or changed under its ticketing terms with a handling fee; lost tickets are not reissued, so you must buy again. Arrive 15 minutes before departure at the boarding point on the date shown, as latecomers are not carried and are not refunded.
- Typhoons and severe weather: if a departure is cancelled when a No. 8 gale or storm signal is hoisted, passengers can refund or rebook at the original point of purchase within seven days from that day. Tickets bought on the official website, WeChat mini programme or Alipay mini programme are refunded automatically through the original payment method within seven days, with no application needed. When the No. 8 signal is lowered, shops and coaches resume a limited service within two hours, subject to weather and road conditions.
- Baggage: one piece free per passenger, no larger than 64cm x 41cm x 23cm and no heavier than 10kg. Oversized or excess baggage, bicycles and prams need staff approval and may require an extra baggage ticket; folding does not automatically make them free.
- Children and seniors: operators typically sell infant tickets (0–3), child tickets (3–11) and senior tickets (65+), but discounts differ by route, and staff may ask for proof of age.
- Third-party platforms: agency and OTA tickets usually follow the platform's own rules, and some are strictly non-refundable, so read the terms before paying.
Schedules, fares and stops are updated regularly, so check the operator's official website, mini programme or hotline before you travel and treat the official announcement as final.
FAQ
How much does a cross-border coach from the city cost?
Using the Shenzhen Port Office table of 17 September 2026: city departures to Shekou via Shenzhen Bay Port are 50 to 60, and to Grand Mercure Guangming 50 to 60; Shenzhen Bay Port to Hong Kong's urban stops is 30 to 55; and Huanggang short-haul lines cost HK$25 to HK$55 with Octopus or HK$35 to HK$60 in cash. Published figures are indicative; the operator's ticketing system shows the final currency and amount.
Must I get off the coach and carry my bags during clearance?
Yes. TIL ChinaLink's official notice requires passengers to take all luggage off the vehicle, and coaches only wait about 20 minutes at the port. You reboard with your ticket afterwards, and possibly on a different vehicle because of operational reassignment.
Can I just take the next coach if I miss mine?
Not automatically. Official terms are that latecomers are not carried and not refunded; refunds or rebookings apply when a departure is cancelled, for example because of a typhoon, within seven days at the original purchase point, and online purchases are refunded automatically.
Does the Lok Ma Chau shuttle bus still run?
No. With single-location clearance at the rebuilt Huanggang Port from 6:30am on 12 October 2026, vehicles drive directly into the port, so the Lok Ma Chau–Huanggang shuttle is discontinued. For 24-hour crossings, use the franchised buses, green minibuses or short-haul cross-border coaches that serve the new port.
Where should I buy tickets?
Buy from the operator directly: its website, WeChat or Alipay mini programme, or a shop. Third-party platforms often restrict refunds and changes, sometimes to non-refundable, and official channels are quicker to publish timetable changes.
