Shenzhen Gets Its First Michelin-Starred Restaurants, and a Food Festival Right After

On 18 August 2026, the 2026 Guangzhou Shenzhen Michelin Guide combined Guangzhou and Shenzhen into a single guide for the first time, with the launch event held at Shenzhen MixC in Luohu District. According to Shenzhen News Network, the two cities together list 176 restaurants, of which Shenzhen accounts for 59, and Shenzhen has produced 7 Michelin-starred restaurants for the first time — 2 two-star (Dongwan, Yun Jing) and 5 one-star (including Chaoshan Chao and Ensue).

One month later, the same venue follows up with a festival: from 25 to 27 September 2026 (the 15th, 16th and 17th of the eighth lunar month — the three-day Mid-Autumn holiday), the 2026 Shenzhen Michelin Guide Food Festival will be held at MixC Street, Shenzhen MixC. The event is free and requires no booking — no need to scramble for tickets, just walk in and eat. Last year's (2025) inaugural "Michelin Food Encounter Festival" was held on the same street and drew packed crowds, and this year it has been upgraded directly to a "Guide Food Festival".

1. Event Basics (Copy Before You Go)

Note: the official announcement only confirms the Mid-Autumn holiday dates. The specific opening hours for each day are usually announced by the organiser and the mall about a week before the event, so it's best to check Shenzhen MixC's official social media accounts the night before you go.

2. Four Highlights This Year

• Starred restaurants + star chefs on site: Head chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants prepare signature dishes live — not the pre-made stalls of an ordinary food festival.
• Shanshui-inspired setting: The same street creates two scenes, day and night — a market by day, and a night food street with lighting after dark.
• Interactive big screens + light performances: Large interactive screens are set up along the street, paired with light shows.
• Intangible cultural heritage aesthetics × Mid-Autumn elegance: Intangible cultural heritage crafts and Mid-Autumn-themed decorations — great for bringing elders and taking photos during the holiday.

Since entry is free, food and drinks are paid for stall by stall on site. We suggest bringing e-payment (WeChat / Alipay / UnionPay QuickPass) and budgeting around RMB 100 to 200 per person to eat comfortably.

3. Transport: Getting to MixC Street from Three Checkpoints

• Luohu Checkpoint: After crossing, board Shenzhen Metro Line 1 at Luohu Station — one stop to Guomao Station, two stops to Grand Theater Station; from Grand Theater Station it's a few minutes' walk to MixC. About 15 minutes in total, the most direct route.
• Futian Checkpoint: After crossing at Lok Ma Chau Station, take Line 4 to Convention & Exhibition Center Station, transfer to Line 1 towards Luohu, and alight at Grand Theater Station; about 25 to 30 minutes.
• Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint: Board Line 13 at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint Station, transfer to Line 2 or Line 11 and then to Line 1 (changing around Houhai Station and Futian Station) to Grand Theater Station, about 40 to 45 minutes; if travelling with elders, consider calling a car instead — about 35 minutes outside peak hours.

If driving, note: during the event there is traffic control around MixC Street, and the mall's parking spaces are chronically tight anyway — driving down during the Mid-Autumn holiday is even less advisable.

4. Traffic Police Notice: MixC Street Closed from 15 September to 10 October

Shenzhen traffic police have issued a temporary traffic arrangement notice for the event: from 00:00 on 15 September 2026 to 24:00 on 10 October 2026, MixC Street (the section from Jiamin Road to Shucheng Road) will be closed, and vehicles that normally use this section must divert via Bao'an South Road or other surrounding roads. Pedestrians and vehicles passing through must follow on-site traffic signs and markings and obey traffic police directions.

In other words, the festival street setup actually begins on 15 September. If you just want to see the decorations without the crowds, you can walk past MixC a few days before the official opening; but to eat at all the stalls, you must go between 25 and 27 September.

5. One-Day Itinerary Along the Way: What to Do Within a Kilometre of MixC

Since you're in Luohu, don't just eat at the food festival and leave. Within a kilometre of MixC there's enough to fill half a day:

• Shenzhen MixC: Luohu's flagship upscale mall, with first-tier brands, a supermarket and restaurants all under one roof — the event's main venue is its outdoor street area. Metro Grand Theater Station.
• KK Mall (Kingkey Banner Center): A long-established large mall in Luohu with a cinema, family floors and a high density of eateries, about a 10-minute walk away — a good backup plan for rainy days. Metro Grand Theater Station.
• Dongmen Old Street: Two stops on Line 1 from Grand Theater Station to Laojie Station, Shenzhen's oldest pedestrian street, known for street snacks and budget clothing and shoes. Metro Line 1 Laojie Station.
• Luohu Commercial City: Right at the Luohu Checkpoint exit — the most convenient first or last stop for stocking up, with clothing alterations, key cutting and daily necessities all here. Metro Line 1 Luohu Station.

6. Practical Tips

• Timing: At a free-entry food festival, the first hour after opening and after 7pm are the two peak periods. To eat more and get better photos, aim to arrive before 11:30 or around 17:00.
• Payment: Nine out of ten stalls in Shenzhen accept WeChat / Alipay, but a few small shops only take scanned RMB payments — remember to activate "Mainland payment" in advance.
• Footwear: MixC Street is an outdoor street; around Mid-Autumn, Shenzhen daytime temperatures are still above 30°C with a high chance of rain, so bring an umbrella and wear breathable shoes.
• Bringing elders: Grand Theater Station has lift exits, so wheelchairs and strollers are fine; the mall has plenty of toilets and air-conditioned rest areas.
• Don't make a wasted trip: The event dates are 25 to 27 September — don't rush over in mid-September, because from 15 September it's only the street closure and setup.

1. Do I need to buy tickets or book?

No. The organiser's information states free entry and no booking — just walk into MixC Street; food and drinks are paid for stall by stall on site.

2. Can I make a same-day return trip from Hong Kong?

Yes. From Luohu Checkpoint it's only two metro stops to Grand Theater Station; finish eating and head back to Luohu around 9pm, and you can still get back to Hong Kong before 23:30 (Luohu Checkpoint is open until 24:00).

3. Will it be cancelled if it rains?

MixC Street is a semi-open outdoor street area; light rain usually doesn't stop it, and the organiser will adjust performance times according to the weather. In the event of a typhoon or rainstorm warning it may be suspended — check the mall's announcements before you go.

4. Do I need to book separately for the Michelin restaurants?

The festival stalls are buy-and-eat on the spot, no booking needed. But if you want to eat at the "star-winning" restaurants themselves (such as Dongwan, Yun Jing or Chaoshan Chao), you'll need to call or book through a platform directly — seats are very tight during the Mid-Autumn holiday, so it's best to book two weeks in advance.

5. How do I choose between this and other Mid-Autumn events in Shenzhen?

The food festival is limited to the three Mid-Autumn days; during the same period Shenzhen also has free events such as the pouch embroidery exhibition at Nanshan Museum and the international print exhibition at Guan Shanyue Art Museum — you can see exhibitions by day and eat at the festival by night.
