Shenzhen got its own big natural history museum on 28 July 2026. The Shenzhen Natural History Museum sits by Yanzi Lake in Pingshan and, at 105,300 sqm of floor area, is the largest comprehensive natural history museum in southern China, holding 7,461 real specimens and 338 models. The dinosaur hall is the headline act, and a rooftop garden walkway of more than 600 metres links the building to the surrounding wetlands.
Getting there from Hong Kong is straightforward: the high-speed rail from West Kowloon reaches Pingshan in about 46 minutes, then metro Line 16 completes the trip.

Getting there from Hong Kong
Fastest: high-speed rail from West Kowloon to Pingshan station (about 46 minutes), then metro Line 16 to Shaxue station, Exit D, and walk 8–10 minutes.
Alternative: from Shaxue station Exit B take the D53 shuttle straight to the museum; or ride the Pingshan SkyShuttle Line 1 to Natural History Museum West station. Buses M151, M574 and D53 stop at the museum.
All-metro route: from Futian Port take Line 10 to Gangxia North, Line 14 to Pingshanwei, then Line 16 to Shaxue (about 1 hour 26 minutes). From Shenzhen Bay Port allow about 1 hour 50 minutes.
Practical tips
- Wear comfortable shoes — the museum is large and involves a lot of walking.
- Bring a light jacket for the air-conditioning, especially for children.
- Lockers are available, so you need not carry bags around.
- Start with the dinosaur hall while it is quietest, then work through the rest.
