The best way to save on shipping is to have your items delivered to a Shenzhen pickup point and grab them when you head north — especially for bulky items or things you don't need urgently, this can save you a big chunk of cross-border shipping fees. Here's how to use Cainiao Station and Hive Box:

What are Cainiao Station / Hive Box?

• Cainiao Station: A pickup point under Alibaba, usually located inside residential complexes, convenience stores, or pharmacies. Staffed, and packages can be stored for a few days
• Hive Box (蜂巢) Smart Locker: An unattended self-service parcel locker, available 24/7, similar to smart lockers in Hong Kong

How to receive your items?

1. When shopping on Taobao, enter the Shenzhen Cainiao Station / Hive Box locker address as the delivery address (you can select the "Cainiao Station" pickup point in the app)
2. After the seller ships, the courier delivers the package to the pickup point / locker
3. You'll receive a pickup code via SMS / App notification
4. When you head north, go to the pickup point and show the staff your pickup code (for Cainiao), or enter the pickup code / scan the QR code at the Hive Box locker
5. Grab your package and you're done!

Things to keep in mind

• Pickup points have a free storage period: Cainiao Station usually stores packages for free for 3-5 days (depending on the station), after which fees may apply or the package may be returned
• Hive Box smart lockers offer around 18 hours of free storage, after which a daily storage fee applies (very cheap), so remember to pick up your package promptly
• Before buying, confirm when you'll actually be heading north — don't buy something only to realize you can't pick it up for a month
• Some items (liquids, batteries) have shipping restrictions — check with the seller and the courier first

Consolidated shipping to Hong Kong

Want to ship back to Hong Kong? Here's the process:

1. Use official consolidated shipping (Taobao's "Official Consolidation") or a third-party consolidation company
2. The seller ships to a Shenzhen consolidation warehouse (many offer free shipping)
3. Collect several items → apply for consolidated shipping → select a Hong Kong address / pickup point → pay the shipping fee
4. Receive your items in Hong Kong a few days later, or pick them up at a convenience store / pickup point
