Shenzhen Nightlife: Bars, Live Music & Rooftop Views

Shenzhen after dark: rooftop bars with skyline views, live music venues, expat-friendly pubs in Shekou and trendy clubs in Futian. A safe and friendly nightlife guide for visitors.

Shenzhen has a vibrant, surprisingly safe nightlife scene — from skyline rooftop bars to underground clubs. Here's your visitor's guide to going out after dark.

🥂 Best nightlife areas

  • Futian — COCO Park & surrounding streets: the liveliest central hub with open-air bars, restaurants and clubs. Great for bar-hopping without going far.
  • Shekou / Sea World: the expat quarter — international pubs, craft beer and a relaxed waterfront vibe. Best for English-friendly nights.
  • Nanshan — OCT & tech park area: trendy craft-beer bars and cocktail spots.
  • Luohu: older bars and KTV culture; less visitor-focused.

🍸 Rooftop & skyline bars

Shenzhen's skyscrapers host some spectacular high bars — perfect for a sundowner. Search for rooftop bars in Futian's high-rise hotels; a cocktail with a 300m view is a highlight of any Shenzhen trip. Dress code: smart casual at upscale venues.

🎵 Live music & culture

  • Live music pubs exist around COCO Park and Shekou — check listings on Damai (大麦) or ask locals in expat groups.
  • OCT-LOFT sometimes hosts indie gigs and arts events — check ahead.
  • KTV (karaoke) is a Chinese nightlife staple — private rooms, book via your hotel; fun with a group.

🛡️ Staying safe & practicalities

  • Shenzhen is generally very safe at night; still, take normal precautions (watch your drink, use Didi rather than walking alone late in unfamiliar areas).
  • Getting home: the metro stops around 23:00; after that use Didi (see our Didi guide). Bars and clubs will help you call one.
  • ID: bars may ask to see your passport — carry a copy or your actual passport if you plan to drink.
  • Payment: most bars take Alipay/WeChat; keep some cash backup.
  • Closing times: many bars run late (2am+), clubs later; check individual venues.

💡 Nightlife etiquette

  • In China, the bill is usually paid when you finish — flag a server or go to the counter.
  • Tipping is not expected at bars.
  • Drinking games and group toasts (干杯!) are part of the fun — it's polite to clink glasses a bit lower than your seniors/hosts.

Prefer a quiet end to the day? A night walk along Shenzhen Bay is free and beautiful.
